Het Elzasser Domaine Bott-Geyl omvat 15 hectare, waaronder 6 grands crus, 4 lieux-dits en één historische clos. In totaal tachtig percelen verspreid over zeven gemeentes van Ribeauvillé tot Kientzheim in het hart van de streek die ‘Parels van wijngaarden’ wordt genoemd. Wijnmaker Jean-Christophe Bott, erfgenaam van een wijnfamilie die teruggaat tot 1795, zet zich vurig in om zijn terroirs te laten excelleren. Hij maakt wijnen met een geheel eigen visie op het begrip ‘Grand Vin d'Alsace’.

The yellow-golden 2015 Grand Cru Sonnenglanz Gewurztraminer opens with a beautifully clear, refined yet also intense and concentrated bouquet of almond cookies, lychees, oranges, mangos and spicy phenols. The attack on the rich and generous palate is fresh and savory, and the full-bodied, textural Sonnenglanz reveals stimulating piquancy and salinity that carries the wine to a long and refreshing finish, which is quite a rare talent of Gewurztraminer, a grape variety that is far too often underrated but is a world star if cultivated in the right terroir, like here in a warm climate on calcareous marl soils. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in February 2023.
