Amélie Berthaut behoort tot de groep talentvolle en jonge wijnmakers die de afgelopen jaren hun familiedomein hebben overgenomen. In 2013 nam Amélie van haar vaders kant 100% van de percelen over in Fixin en Gevrey Chambertin en van haar moeders kant een groot gedeelte van de familie wijngaarden in Vosne-Romanée. Amélie combineert passie met een gedegen wijnopleiding. Bovendien deelt ze haar kennis en ervaring onderling uit met vergelijkbare bevriende wijnmakers. Alles staat in het teken van grote wijnen…en die worden volgens haar in de wijngaard gemaakt. Veel arbeid en een natuurlijk werkwijze zonder herbiciden. In de kelder gaat ze zo zacht mogelijk te werk gebruik makend van zwaartekracht. Haar terroir gedreven wijnen staan bekend om de elegantie en finesse. Voor ons en voor de internationale pers is Amélie een grote rising star!
"Cuvée Historique" oftewel vlaggenschip van het wijnhuis. Intens paarsrode kleur. Complexiteit all over. Heerlijk geurende kersen. cassis crème. Mineraal. Goede materie en structuur. Wijn met potentie. Zeer goed in balans. Een van de verfijnste wijnen uit deze gemeente!
Bavette à l'echalotte, ris de veau met girolles, kazen. Zachte runderstoofschotels, gevogelte uit de oven met salie, milde, rijpe Comté en Pont L'eveque.

Already bottled, the 2022 Fixin Les Crais derives from stony, alluvial soils that always produce a charming, demonstrative style of wine, and that's the case this year. Offering up aromas of sweet cherries, berries and plums mingled with orange zest and petals, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and perfumed, with a suave, succulent profile that belies its aging potential.
Amélie Berthaut has presided over this Fixin reference point for the better part of a decade now, uniting the vineyards of the Domaine Denis Berthaut on her father's side and Domaine François Gerbet on her mother’s. This enterprise now encompasses some 16 hectares, with Amélie's husband Nicolas Faure overseeing the vineyards. Soils are cultivated mechanically, and treatments are largely organic. In the winery, vinification incorporates increasing percentages of whole bunches, with less extraction and tannin than in yesteryear, emphasizing suavity and perfume. Back in 2019, I wrote that all the stars are aligned at this address, and that prophesy certainly appears to be coming true.

This is one of my favourite wines from Fixin, and also from Berthaut-Gerbet. With only 20% stems included, one could wish for a bit more, but the whole clusters nevertheless open up the bouquet and add to the wine’s silkiness. The oak is currently a bit forward over the fresh fruit. This doesn’t quite equal the magnificent 2019, but it’s still a delightful wine
