The 2023 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru offers up aromas of raspberries and plums mingled with orange zest and petals. Medium to full-bodied, ample and suave, with lively acids and a sapid finish, it will offer a broad drinking window.
This is another strong set of wines from Amélie Berthaut, who has presided over this Fixin reference point for the better part of a decade now, uniting the vineyards of the Domaine Denis Berthaut on her father's side and Domaine François Gerbet on her mother’s. This enterprise now encompasses some 16 hectares, with Amélie's husband, Nicolas Faure, overseeing the vineyards. Soils are cultivated mechanically, and treatments are largely organic. In the winery, vinification incorporates increasing percentages of whole bunches, with less extraction and tannin than in yesteryear, emphasizing suavity and perfume. That plays into the style of the 2023 vintage, delivering supple and charming wines that will drink well pretty much on release.

The Clos Vougeot is from the bottom of the vineyard, but despite this, it has a lovely freshness and liveliness. Its deep and intense but also perfumed and quite sensual. I find the Echezeaux a notch better .. but the Clos de Vougeot is not far behind … very well made

Amélie Berthaut is één van de jonge wijnmakers met onvervalst Bourgogne-dna die afgelopen jaren het roer van het familiebedrijf overnamen. Sinds 2013 bestiert zij een aantal fantastische wijngaarden in Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Flagey-Echezeaux en Clos de Vougeot. De wijnen gaan onder de naam Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet de markt op. Met respect voor tradities van haar voorouders, heeft Amélie haar eigen stijl gevonden: een mix van de klassieke, pure familiestijl en haar persoonlijke, delicate, genereuze inbreng. Sinds ze het familiedomein overnam, maakt ze enorme stappen in kwaliteit. Haar portfolio vertoont meer en meer finesse en diepgang. Dat vinden wij trouwens niet als enigen: de internationale wijnpers is vol lof over de wijnen van Berthaut-Gerbet.
